Finding Myself: My Two-Year Study Abroad Experience in Ireland

Hello everyone! This is my first time writing an article, and I'm not sure where to begin... So let me start with a brief self-introduction! My name is Keying, and I'm 21 years old.

I'm writing this article because I've noticed that more and more friends and family members are curious about my decision to study in Ireland for two years.

I chose Ireland as my study abroad destination partly because I wanted to change my previous state of being unmotivated in my studies and lacking clear goals. I hoped that by changing my lifestyle, I could stop wasting time and perhaps even discover a university major that interests me or find my ideal job during my studies abroad.

Choosing such a faraway country for my first trip abroad, and staying for three years, was unimaginable to me. Ireland is located between the United States and the United Kingdom, with Dublin as its capital. It's a country with four distinct seasons and a mild climate, where air conditioning or fans are almost unnecessary, as the climate itself is quite cool; just dressing warmly is enough. I remember my first day in Ireland, I was greeted by a biting wind; it was the worst winter I had experienced in 32 years. As time went by, I gradually adapted to the lifestyle abroad, made friends from different countries, and fell in love with the country. At first, I often missed home and hoped to return as soon as possible.

At the beginning of my study abroad trip to Ireland, I was the quietest student in my class, too afraid to speak up due to language barriers. However, just a week later, I became one of the most active students. I was surprised to find that foreign teaching methods were so interesting. Teachers not only organized outdoor activities such as picnics in parks, museum visits, and movie screenings, but also used games to teach, allowing us to learn happily and absorb knowledge easily. This was completely different from the teaching methods in Asia, without that heavy academic burden.

Studying abroad not only helped me learn languages but also allowed me to make friends from all over the world, including Brazil, France, Germany, South Korea, Japan, and Italy. I especially enjoyed attending my classmates' gatherings, where we would share our country's specialties. Brazilian desserts, though very sweet, were incredibly delicious. We also celebrated holidays together, enjoyed afternoon tea and dinner at restaurants, went to pubs for drinks and conversation, and even traveled together. For those who enjoy Guinness beer, Ireland is a great choice. Living in Ireland offers a low cost of living, and airfares to neighboring countries are very affordable. For shopping enthusiasts, Dublin is simply paradise.

These past two years have made me fall in love with life in Ireland. It has given me many experiences that words cannot fully describe. Everyone has their own story, whether beautiful or unpleasant, it's all like a dream to me! Both beautiful dreams and nightmares must end. Don't choose to remain asleep just because it's a beautiful dream, and don't choose to escape just because it's a nightmare! A life with its ups and downs is what makes it truly wonderful!
